How To Find Products For My Business

How thinking outside the box can give you many ideas for products to sell

As an eBay consultant one of the questions I am asked time after time is " How do I find products for my business". Now this is one of the hardest and also easiest questions to answer, but if we are all honest it is something we all have problems with.

If I am with a new or old client and this question crops up, I will ask them to go and get a pad od paper and a pen (I also carry these in case they say I do not have any). Next I ask them to write down what they see around them in the room we are in. When this happens very often they look at me and say "What !!", I say what things, items do you see in the room, and I get them to list everything we can see. I then get them to open draws and cupboards and list everything.

Once this exercise has been done, I tell them that once I have gone I need them to do the same in every room in the office or house. Also I ask them that when they are out to keep their eyes and ears open and to write down everything they see. At the moment I just want clients to have a large list of potential products. Yes everything from a paperclip to a house !!!

Once the list has been done, I get them to fine tune it -

Is it postable - A house, A car is not really, but it still can be sold on eBay

Once the list has been fine tuned I show them how to check if the items are selling on eBay for a good price, those that are not are crossed off for now - we may go back to those later, as seasons change.

Then I ask them to cross off items they would not be happy to sell, and then cross off items that cannot be sold on eBay. Once this has been done we are left with a list of potential products that can be sold on eBay. Also they soon see the question "How to find products for my Business" is quite easy.

Finally in this exercise I then show them how to go online and find suppliers for the items. I will show them how to contact them via phone or email and request a pricelist and catalogue. Yes the process takes time. But once you have done it a few items, you will be able to spot an item in your home or when you are out, and within a short while you will have said yes or no to it in your mind and if it is a yes, you will be able to have it down on paper and within a short while you will have done research that will show you if it is for you or not.

Of course not every product you see and research will be for you. But now and then you will see a hot product that could make you a nice on going income. I hope this short article has shown you how to find products for my business.
